Word from the Chair – 22/06/25

Where has the time gone? It’s been a while since my last update, so let’s make this one count!

Rendlesham Show 2025 arrived in a flash and exceeded all expectations. Despite the financial challenges, Ellie and the team truly worked magic, pulling together a fantastic event in just a few short weeks.

We’re now shifting focus to our upcoming events, starting with our intention to bring the fireworks back to Rendlesham on 2nd November. Fireworks and a few key attractions are already booked, and we’re determined to make sure nothing gets in the way this year.

Plans are also underway for a Christmas celebration, and yes, Rendlesham Show 2026 is already on the horizon. We’re committed to rebuilding and, where we can, taking things a step further.

Over at Jubilee Park, improvements are kicking off soon. We’ll be adding more paving and seating around the Pavilion, with additional ideas still under discussion. In July, repairs to the fencing along the neighbouring farmland will begin, and we’re introducing plenty of new trees and bushes to help address ongoing safety concerns.

After being shelved last year, the Skatepark Project is back on the table! The RPC has approved funds to re-submit the planning application, and we’re currently gathering updated quotes and sourcing the necessary funding to move things forward.

In the Community Centre we were given a grant of £1000 to replace the flooring. This comes from both Cllr Alex Nicholl and a exceedingly kind and welcome donation of floor tiles!

CIL money has been approved to pay for upgrading the lighting in the building. This will help reduce the overall running costs of the centre. This will begin from July 7th and will work around existing bookings.

We’ve received a generous amount of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding so far this year, and more is on the horizon. Unlike the precept (which is drawn from your council tax), CIL comes from local development projects and must be used for specific purposes.

That means we can’t use it to support events, but we can use it for things like building a new playground. The RPC has already compiled a “wish list” of potential projects, but we want to hear from you. What would make Rendlesham even better? Share your ideas with us via Facebook or drop us an email at clerk@rendleshamparishcouncil.gov.uk.

And finally, we’ve welcomed a new face to the RPC, bringing us to 10 members strong. There’s still one space available, so if you’re local and want to help shape our village’s future, we’d love to hear from you!

Thank you all for your continued support and engagement.
