✍️ Word from the Chair – August Update

It’s been another busy month at Rendlesham Parish Council, with plenty of proactive work going into community projects and improvements. Let’s start with the positives—there are quite a few!

👥 Full Council

We’re delighted to have co-opted our 11th and final councillor this month. Please join us in welcoming Charlotte Gooch to the team!

💰 CIL Spending

At our August meeting on the 4th, we agreed on several exciting projects to allocate our Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds. You can find the full list on our website, and we’re always open to new suggestions—your ideas help shape our village.

Approved projects include:

  • Dog bag dispensers
  • New chairs and tables for the Community Centre
  • A contribution toward replacing damaged IT equipment for Rendlesham Radio

Previously agreed items are also moving forward:

  • A new water fountain for Jubilee Park
  • Three new benches for Jubilee Park
  • Six benches for the village green on Walnut Tree Avenue

We’re looking for volunteers to help build and install some of these—if you’re interested, please get in touch!

We’ve also secured grant funding for four cycle racks, which will be installed at Jubilee Park and near the village green.

🏛️ Community Centre Repairs

You may have heard about the recent accident involving a vehicle entering the Community Centre. Thankfully, no one was physically injured. Room 16 sustained the most damage, and the internal walls have been removed. We’re working closely with our insurers to rebuild as quickly as possible. All other rooms and bookings remain unaffected, and our Clerk and Community Centre team are available to answer any questions.

🏗️ Old Sports Centre Site

It’s fantastic to see progress finally being made on the old sports centre site. You can view the full plans on the East Suffolk Planning Portal under reference DC/20/1035/FUL

🧒 Teenagers & Young Adults – Have Your Say

We have had some positive and constructive engagement with some younger residents about how we can better support their age groups. We are keen to hear more with the current absence of a skate park (watch this space 🤞), we know this demographic deserves more attention. We have CIL funds available and invite you to share your ideas at an open session on Friday 22nd August at the Pavilion.

🎾 Free Tennis

We’re pleased to offer free tennis sessions again on Thursday 27th August. To book your slot, please contact our Clerk.

🌳 Pine Close Park

The park is now open, and the new equipment is ready to enjoy! However, we’ve received reports of some issues, which have been passed on to East Suffolk Council. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

🐕 Out-of-Control Dogs

We’ve had several reports of dogs off-lead and out of control, particularly in Jubilee Park. A reminder to all dog owners: please keep your dog on a lead and under control at all times. This helps ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment of our shared spaces.

And finally… Volunteers!

We need your help to make the fireworks event a success and are looking for volunteers to help on the ground on the night. If you’d like to help please contact our Clerk and we’ll provide further information closer to the time.
